Billy Jones
It is with sadness that we have learned of the passing of William (‘Billy’) Jones, a former member of the band, who died just before Christmas at the age of 92.
Billy joined the band in 1944 together with his brother (‘Tommy Tinks’) and he played Bb/soprano cornet right up to his retirement in 2004. A highly talented musician, he was a member of the winning brass quartet which competed in the National Eisteddfod of 1963 (together with George Brookes, John Edwards and Hugh Hughes all sadly also no longer with us).
From 1976 Billy stood-in to conduct the band and keep it going at a difficult time until a new Musical Director could be appointed, and notably in 1977 he was presented to Queen Elizabeth II on her visit to Llandudno as part of her Silver Jubilee tour of the UK.
Billy will be greatly missed and we send our condolences to his family at this time.
