New Musical Director

Llandudno Town Band are delighted to announce the arrival of Andrew Jones as their new Musical Director.

Andrew began his musical education in Flintshire with the Royal Buckley Town Band. His education was supplemented with master classes from the late Alan Stringer (formerly principal trumpet with London Symphony Orchestra and Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra) and progressed to become co-principal trumpet with the National Youth Orchestra of Wales and a member of the National Youth Brass of Great Britain.

He has performed with many highly respected bands across Wales, the North West, Yorkshire and the Midlands including Northop, Point of Ayr Colliery, Besses o’ th’ Barn, Yorkshire Imperial Metals, Milnrow, Rhos Silver and Rainsford Band predominantly as principal cornet or solo cornet.

His conducting career begun with Deeside Silver Band before moving on to Royal Buckley Town Band, Greenalls Band and Rainsford Band : winning contest prizes with each.

Andrew spent over 30 years working in the field of music education and holds postgraduate qualifications from the Universities of Cambridge and Surrey. During this time he directed Great Sankey High School Concert Band performing at the annual National and International Concert Band Festivals (achieving Gold and Silver awards respectively).

Andrew is proud to have formed two community concert bands. The Argoed Concert Band in 1997 (adopted by Mold Town Council in 1999) and Westbrook Concert Band (now re-badged as the Warrington West Concert Band). These bands are flourishing today serving their respective communities twenty years after their inauguration concert.

Now retired, Andrew has lost none of his enthusiasm for music and is relishing the challenge of revitalising Llandudno Town Band and building its long term future. He has already started working in conjunction with the training band to bring through new talent into the senior band.
